Service is always good however I have a request. Since you have no shell access we are required to do everything through your control panel. As I'm sure you know this is very tedious. Having shell access would really be great especially for file and database management and especially since your file manager has some serious limitations. The most serious limitation is the way the "copy" function works. It doesn't behave the same as a UNIX or dos copy and will not overwrite files but merely puts a "copy_of" in the directory. For doing upgrades it's useless.
Can I get shell access? If not can you PLEASE fix the copy command in your file manager.

I help manage the website for a condo association, and when we needed a website I looked at a bunch of different options. While price was considered, one thing that got me, is that your company is a local Tampa area business, and being a condo in the Tampa area, I wanted to support local businesses.

Each problem was very complex and took a lot of skill, knowledge and a desire to go that extra mile to help out a customer in need. She was so helpful, even when she had to explain computers 101 to me so that I could comprehend the troubleshooting, and solutions to my computer support issues. She always called back in a timely manner if I could not get to speak to her directly. Each issue nearly caused panic on my end but she always came through for me and managed to put me at ease at the same time. As we all know, computer support problems can be some of the most frustrating problems in the world, especially when one's company livelihood is involved. Just a quick note to say thanks to John DeSantis and your other admins.
I am doing the web admin duties for a small missionary group and they (we) have been having a lot of trouble with their current hosting provider (no names needed). They told me that they have recently had days worth of email go missing, constant site instability, and I have been unable to access their ftp site now for over a week.
When they called their hosting provider to discuss these issues, they said they were put on hold for 3 (you read that right THREE) hours before they had a human appear and "help" them with their problem. Not surprisingly, the problem still exists. Emails to their host often do not receive a reply for several days, or they only get automatic responses with unhelpful advice.
In comparison, the Webmasters.com admins are always quick to respond when I send in a trouble report. I usually have whatever problem that I have noted solved in under an hour.
When I told this missionary group about how the Webmasters.com admins handle problems, they asked if I would transfer their account over to you. I'm waiting for the domain transfer to go through right now, but when it does, I will be opening up another hosting account for this group.
So thanks again to John, Curran, J. Marquand, and the others in your support group. As this other hosting provider demonstrated, anyone can host a site; just plunk a server down and load Apache in. What sets Webmasters.com apart is how you deal with clients when they are having problems that makes the difference. |
